Signing of the Declaration of Independence
The Declaration was composed, ammended and then published. This day, was the official publishment of the Declaration. The composers all came out and signed in their agreement to the document. This was imortant because we became our own country after this. -
Ratification of the Constitution
On this day the constitution was ratified. People signed their agreement and our basic government outline was made. This was important because it made our country have a goverment and paved the way for the future government. -
The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisian purchase was the major purchase of the mid-west from France. President Jackson went against the Constitution by purchasing this. He did not have the right to purchase land. Still, this is important because the country needed this to be able to move west and make more money with farming. This also expanded the country and helped make us become who we are today. The Lewis and Clark Journey
Lewis and Clark set out in 1804. They were sent to search for a waterway across the country. Also, to report back new findings. Their trip was important because they had the first accurate map of the territory made and many new species of plants and aminals were identified. -
The Texas Revolution
The Texas relovultion was when Texas became a state. This happened because of a war with Mexico and because we won the war, we claimed the land of Texas. This was important for the expansion of the country. (Mcdougal Littell p. 436-7) -
The Alamo
This event was part of the War with Mexico. This was where American troops invaded Mexico (land that is now Texas) . This caused a brutal 90 minute shooting battle that killed many Americans. The Americans and the Mexicans went to war. They spent over a year fighting before finally defeating the Mexicans in September 1847. They conquered land that would become California. (Mcdougal Littell P.435) -

The California Gold Rush
The California Gold Rush was where someone found some gold in CA and everyone heard about it. This caused many colonists to move west for gold and other riches. It started in 1849 and was it its best in 1852. Soon, there was almost nbo gold left and now gold is even more valuable for its value and rareness. Fugitive Slave Act
The Fugitive Slave Act made it legal for runaway slaves to be captured by their masters and brought back. Even free slaves could be taken to the south and turned back into slaves. This was important because it made many slaves fear being captured and made it unsafe for any African-Americans. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
This book would change the United States forever. The story was about a Plantation owner with many slaves. The owners wife, however, was an abolitionist. Of its time, this book was a bestseller. After "Uncle Toms Cabin" was published, the abolitionist movement grew tremendously. This event was important because it helped our path the abolishing slavery. -
Hapers Ferry
At Harpers Ferry, Virginia on this day, 19 Americans captured the Harpers Ferry Arsenal. These people did not want slavery. Their leader, John Brown, had previously murdered someone who was proslavery. This event was important because it showed just how determined some abolotionists were and what they would do. Lincoln's Asassination
A favorite president, Abraham Lincoln was shot on this day in1865,while he was at a theatre. The theatre was Ford's theatre. The president was killed by a guy named John Wilkes Booth. This death was important because it was a shock that one of the most famous presidents was killed. -
World War I
World War I started in 1914 and lasted until 1918. The war included many countries as allies. It was referred to as "The Great War" for its largeness and was named that until World War II started. This war was important because it was one of this biggest wars in history and it made many countries come to agreement and others start arguement. -
The stock market crash of 1929
In 1929, the stocks all crashed. This is also refered to as "The Great Depression." During the next few years, the unemployment rates sky rocketed. It was the worst economic crash to date. -

When Superman first appeared, the creators were on a $130 contract. Soon, everyone was reading the Superman comics and by 1941, the group was getting paid $75,000 each per year. This event was important because it was the beginning of one the most famous superheros. -

World War II lasted from 1939-1945. It ended ina bout 55 million deaths worldwide. It was the largest and most destructive conflict in history. Japan and Germany lost to their allies. On this day, Japan sent many fighter jets over to Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. They attacked the Harbor with bombs and torpedos. The surprise attack led to many deaths and a devistated area. -

These bombings were part of World War 2. The bombs came from the US. The United States had severe conflict with Japan. After these, Japan came back with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. These events were important because they had lot of impact on the war and they shocked people everywhere. -

The First Appearance of Spiderman in Comics
Spiderman made a new kind of superhero. Typically,adult men were superheros and teenagers were the sidekicks. Spiderman, however, was the opposite. Spiderman was a teenager who lived a double life. While during the day he was a normal high school student, at night he was a supernatural superhero. This event was important because it changed the way we looked at superheros and opened up new possibilities. -

MLKJ made a speech on the national mall in Washington D.C. on August 28th, 1963, to let the black and white people to be treated equal. The blacks would soon be respected more and have basic rights. Explosion of the Challenger Space Shuttle
On this day, the "Challenger" space shuttle accident happened in 1986. It borke apart only 73 seconds into its flight. This caused deaths of its 7 crew members. The spacecraft crashed over the Atlantic Ocean, near Florida. This event was important because it was a very memorable thing that happened. It shocked people for a while, becaused they were devistated that this happened. -

9/11
This is the day where terrorists hijacked 2 planes and crashed them into the Twin Towers (World Trade Center). A third plane was also hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon. A fourth plane was supposed to crash into the white house but the passengers on the plane managed to guide it into a field in Pennsylvania and only the plane passengers. were killed. Still, over 2,000 people were killed and many were never found. This event was important because it expanded our thoughts about terrorism. -

On this day in January, Barack Obama was elected as the president of the US. He won over John McCain. This event was important becuse it pronounced Barack Obama as the 44th president. -
An Important Event in My Life
An important event in my life was the day I met Mike Richards. Richards was my favorite player of the Philadelphia Flyers NHL team. He was my inspiration to play hockey and the reason that I started playing that fall.This event was important because it made me inspired to play ice hockey and made me who I am today.
