Introduction
With the 5th pick in the 1984 Draft the 76ers selected Charles Barkley out of Auburn University averaging 15ppg 10reb and 2 blocks a game. Fun story Barkley didn’t want to get drafted by the 76ers so he went on an eating spree and gained 20 pounds so they wouldn’t draft him but they did and Barkley said “Looking back it was a blessing that the Sixers drafted me”. -
Growth
Barkley in his first few seasons was making a name for himself through 7 seasons he averaged 23.4ppg, 11.7reb(while only being 6’5) and 4ast he also earned a rebounding title which was amazing for his height being 6’5 v.s 7 footers and winning the rebounding title is impressive. -
Maturity
This stage is the middle of Chuck's prime in 1993 he won MVP. What makes it more impressive is that he won MVP over Micheal Jordan when he was at the top of his game. He lead his new Phoenix team to the finals but were stopped by the Bulls in 6 games. Barkley did his part and averaged 27ppg 13reb and 6 assists he did about all he could the Bulls were just the better team. -
Decline
Once Barkley went to Houston he was older and injuries from the past were coming up again but worse. Feuds with his teammate at the time Scottie Pippen didn’t help either and it was just a train wreck. He ended his career as arguably the greatest player to never win a ring. It was around this time he said he wasn’t happy where he was mentally at the time and was getting into trouble with the law. -
