    • Mussolini started making a name for himself as a member of the socialist party in the early 1900s.
    • Supported Italy's entry in World War I.
    • Later on he started opposing Communism and Socialism.
    • Was against the Treaty of Versailles.
    • Founded the National Fascist Party.
    • “Everything in the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state.”
    • Blamed Communists and Socialists for Italy's problems after the war.
    • Became leader in 1922.
    • Established a dictatorship once leader.
  • Joseph Stalin

    Joseph Stalin
    • Was a communist.
    • Crushed his opponents.
    • Painted himself as the greatest and was respected by force.
    • Renamed many things after him.
    • Took control of every aspect of Russian life.
    • “A single death is a tragedy, a million dead is a statistic.”
  • Adolf Hitler

    Adolf Hitler
    • He was rejected by the Austrian army so he joined the Germans in WWI.
    • Joined the National Socialists, also known as Nazis.
    • He guided the Nazis until they became powerful in politics.
    • Tried to revolt against the government in 1923 but failed, he was sent to jail for this. He only stayed 9 months out of the 5 years he was meant to serve.
    • Wrote Mein Kampf while in prison.
    • “Germany will either be a world power or there will be no Germany.”
    • Saw the Aryans as better and hated Jews.
  • Hideki Tojo

    Hideki Tojo
    • He thought Japan had lost it's traditions.
    • Saw the government as weak and corrupt.
    • Helped the military take over the government and ended democracy.
    • Glorified war.
    • Supported nationalism and shintoism.
    • Wanted to make Japan hate the west.
    • Invaded Manchuria and China.
    • Wanted to be honored as a god.
