The Metamorphosis

  • Gregor Samsa wakes up

Samsa, a traveling salesman staying at his family's home, wakes up to find himself mysteriously transformed into a huge insect.
  • Samsa is late for work

Realizing he has missed his train, Samsa embraces the weird change to his body and tries to get up, but struggles as his family members call to him on the other side of the door.
  • The office manager arrives

Samsa's office manager shows up at the house, wondering why he hasn't showed up. He urges Samsa to come out, and finally, with great effort and pain, Samsa manages to unlock his door.
  • Samsa dies

As soon as he gets back to his room, Samsa collapses and dies, feeling peaceful. The cleaning lady finds him the next morning, and the family is glad to be relieved of their burden.
  • Samsa is revealed

Samsa exits his room, assuming his family and the manager will understand he cannot work in his condition, but they are quickly terrified of him. His father shoos him back to his room and slams the door, not before he is injured in the process.
  • Samsa is revealed again

Samsa's mother wishes to see him, and the sister finally allows her in the room. She ends up fainting and Samsa runs out of the room to try and help his sister revive her, but his father comes home. He is angry and drives Samsa back to his room again, throwing apples at him and severely hurting him.
  • The family takes action

With the boarders threatening to leave, the family decides it is time for Samsa to go. They have tried to help him long enough, and he isn't getting any better. Weak, Samsa turns to back to his room.
  • Samsa begins his new life

Shut up in his room, Samsa tries to adjust to his new body. His sister leaves him food each day and he yearns to hear what is going on with his family, being able to hear them but them not knowing he can understand.
  • New lives for everyone

Before, Samsa was the one providing for his family. Now each of his family members has to work instead, and they begin to neglect Samsa, still weak from his injury, so that he doesn't eat much and is living in filth.
  • The boarders

To get even more money, the family takes in a few men as boarders. One night they wish to hear the sister play her violin, and Samsa, his door accidentally left open, can't help but creep out as he is mesmerized by her playing. The boarders see Samsa and are repulsed.
