Joseph and Catherine Maggio, two Italian grocers, were struck with an ax while they slept. Both died on the scene and were discovered by Joseph's brother. The ax was found in the house. -
Louis Besumer & his Mistress
Louis Besumer and Anna Lowe were attacked in the early morning. They were both struck with an ax and survived the attack until 7 weeks after, Anna died. Louis Besumer was also a grocer, much like the Axeman's first victim. -
Pregnant Survivor
An 8 month pregnant woman by the name of Mrs. Edward Schneider, awoke to a man over her bed with an ax. She screamed and the ax dropped and plunged into her skull. She survived and gave birth later to a healthy baby. -
Another Grocer
Joseph Ramano, a grocer, was attacked with an ax and was found by his two nieces. He died 2 days after the attack. -
Cortmiglia Family
The Cortmiglia family was attacked with an ax. The wife was found holding her dead 2 year old daughter and the father was lying in a pool of his own blood, Mr. Cortmiglia was also a grocer. -
Letter to New Orleans
The axeman sent a letter into the local newspaper claiming anyone who had a jazz band in their house would be spared from the ax that night. Jazz music was heard throughout the city that night and no one was killed. -
Steve Boca
Steve Boca was the axeman's next victim and had head wounds from an ax. He managed to get to his friends house in order for them to call the police. All the classic signs of the axeman were present. -
Shots Fired
William Carson, a local druggist, survived the axeman after he awoke to find him in his room and began to shoot at him. The intruder fled. -
A Day Later
A day after shots were fired at the axeman, he struck again. This time he attacked a young girl named Sarah Laumann at night. She survived the attack. -
Final Attack
The axeman struck one last time. He attacked a grocer named Mike Pepitone and Mike died at the scene. To this day the axeman was never found. There have been people accused of being the axeman but the accusations never were supported the evidence.
