When Columbus sailed he was looking for a west water route to India, Asia. But instead he found Americas which then lead to the further colonization of the Americas by Europeans. -

Pineda's voyage
He wanted to find a water route to the pacific ocean. He explored and mapped the Gulf Coast from Florida to Texas. Because he created that map it allowed others to explore the Gulf Coast further. -
Jan 1, 1520
Cortes Voyage
He conquered Tenochtitlan the Aztec capital, between 1519-1521 the exact date is not known. This is important because Tenochtitlan will eventually fall after a three month siege. The Spanish will move in and Tenochtitlan will be known as Mexico City. -

Narvez was his leader and his objective was to find gold. -

De Vaca Discovers Texas
They were sailing when a huge storm came and blew them to Galveston. De Vaca was brought in by the Karankawas for 4 years. De Vaca stays alive by becoming a servant, trader and healer. -

Fray Marcos and Estaban Journey
It starts with Fray Marcos, a Catholic priest and 300 Mexicans with Estaban as there guide. They were sent to study the land to the north and evaluate it. Estaban died after a tribe killed him because he asked for there women. After this Fray Marcos climbs a hill and claims to have seen a building that he thought was made out of gold. He believed that it was a city made out of gold. -

Moscoso Expedition
De Soto was actually the leader of this expedition but after his death at the Mississippi river from a fever. So Moscoso took over and started heading towards east Texas. He basically gave the same report as Coronado and Spain did not return for another 150 years. He also wore gold armour so the Indians thought he was a god so when he died they did not want the Indians to find out so they throw him in the Mississippi river. -

Coronados Expidition
Coronado searches for the cities of gold. Fray Marcos was the guide for the second part of the journey he slips away in fear that he might be blamed for the Indian village with no riches. He discovered Palo Duro and the Grand Canyon. He said do not come back to Texas, and the Spanish did not come back to Texas for another 150 years.
