Christopher Columbus tried to sail to India to look for gold but instead he landed in North and South America. He thought that he was in India so he called the people there Indians. He was also trying to find a west water route to India. He was credited for finding the New World and finding gold and other goods. This was important because he started the Spanish exploring in North America because of the riches he found. -
