    Caesar Augustus changed the way the world was run and created peace that lasted hundreds of years. He was the first emperor in Rome and changed how power was maintained. He also

    He was up against those who had overthrown his adopted father and against other nations. He built an army that secured his empire, where he excelled in administration. I chose Augustus because of his sheer intelligence and ability to conquer, what was, the world and create peace allowing culture to thrive (Grant, 2019).
  • Period: 1398 to 1468

    Johannes Gutenburg changed the world by inventing the printing press. He created a tool that spread information to the masses. One of the greatest works of print he is known for is the Bible.

    He was taken to court more than once (Lehmann-Haupt, 2020) for immoral business decisions he made. I chose Gutenburg because of the legacy his work left. What would life be without books?

    Nicolaus Copernicus was the father of modern astronomy being the first to suggest that the planets revolved around the sun. Copernicus fought against many who rejected his ideals and beliefs (Westman, 2020).

    I chose Nicolaus Copernicus because even when few believed his scientific findings, he stood his ground and continued his research.

    John Locke helped to move the political world through his influence from practicing medicine to writing treaties. He fought for people's right to be naturally free through property rights.

    His treaties were written into the declaration of independence stating the government's job is to protect its people (Rogers, 2020). I chose Locke because he worked his whole academic and professional career trying to make a difference, fighting for others.

    Abraham Lincoln began making a difference for the better when he became a lawyer in 1836 (Current, 2020). After becoming president, his main goal was to preserve and uphold the Union and give all people personal freedom.

    Not only was he up against the Civil war but also worked hard to keep democrats content while pushing a more liberal agenda. He helped to bring slavery to an end with his Emancipation Proclamation. I chose Abraham Lincoln because of his integrity and grit. He never stopped fighting for others' freedom and humane treatment.

    Harriet Tubman was a civil rights activist who escaped enslavement. Fighting to free others from 1849-1865 (Hobson, 2014), she lead the enslaved to freedom on the Underground Railroad and then working as a nurse and as the leader of an espionage network.

    She gave the Union Army vital information about where their troops and supplies were located. She was driven by the desire for herself and others to be free from enslavement while combating being caught. I chose Harriet Tubman because she was brave. She did the right thing even though it could have cost her her life. She never stopped serving other through philanthropy and her home for the elderly.

    Winston Churchill spent his life's work opposing communism and fascism from 1900 to 1955 (Robinson, 2019). He was able to lead Britain to victory during World War II, overcoming Nazi Germany.

    He helped other leaders from around the world shape the postwar way of life. Besides his work in government, Churchill wrote books and motivated through speeches, bringing people together. I chose Winston Churchill because he faced so much adversity and continued to fight for his goals.

    Steve Jobs was a leader and innovator in his field, co-founding Apple in the mid seventies and leading until 2011. He wanted to create a better operating system and put computers in people’s hands. Jobs reinvented the tech world but was also a motivator.

    His goal was to leave a mark on the world and create something that could continue to evolve. The change Jobs implemented ignited so much growth, paving the way we do many things today (Levy, 2020). I chose Steve Jobs because he never stopped. He began this giant of a company in his garage with a friend and a dream. He grew that company, changed lives, and changed the way generations to come will interact with technology. Steve Jobs was a force to be reckoned with until his dying day.
