he was a principal figure in the development of the system of christian theology later called calvinism. calvin was a tireless polemic and apologetic writer who generated much controversy.
he was originally trained as a humanist lawyer. in the year 1536 calvin was recruited by william farel to help reform the church in geneva. -

he was a preist since he was 46 years old. between 1524 and 1537 he studied theology and latin in the university of alcala and then in paris. he and a few followers bound themselves by vows of poverty and chasity and obedience. in 1539 they formed the society of jesus approved in 1548. -
