Omidyar creaated code for a page called Auction Web on his personal website, letting people list things for auction. To his amazement this attracted so many buyers and sellers he had to create a whole new website which he later called eBay. -
Chairman of eBay.
In May of 1998, Omidyar was naed chairman of eBay. He announced the appointent of Meg Whitma as the president and chief executive officer. EBay continued to thrive, who expanded the company's servicees trough new site launches. )in Australia,Canada,Germany,Japan and the United Kingdom. -
EBay goes big
By the end of 1998, the eBay boasted 2.1 million members and generated $750 million in revenues, enough business to attract the attention of e-commerce giant Amazon.com, which started running its own auctions in 1999. -
Board Posistion
In January 2000, Omidyar accepted his first board position outside of eBay.
