    His regiment was sent to Rosario to guard the Paraná River against the advances of the royalists of Montevideo.
    There he raised for the first time the Argentine flag, created by him with the colors of the cockade, also his work. Initially, the flag was a badge for his army division, but he later adopted it as a symbol of independence.
