Leonard Braitwaite When It All Started
Leonard Braitwaite was born on march 23,1923 . He was the first african canadian mpp which stands for member of Provincial Parliament. What he did was make sure that canada was running smoothly , also he repersented canada in many debates . He has faced many challeneges ( specifically becuase of his race ) , although he over came many of them . And that is why I know that Leonard is a prominant figure in the black community . -
When It Sarted To Take Off
Leonard Braithwaite was soon elected to Ward Four the Etobicoke township board of education , the more days went passed the more popular he was becoming , after all , knowone has ever seen an african canadian MPP (member of provential parliment) before .Although that is not the only reason why he was so popular,he was knowen for representing canada in the best way possible.All canadian's knew that Leonard Braitwaite did not do this for the fame,but he did this to create a change in the world . -
How Did It Come About
Leonard Braitwaite was influneced to make a difference by someone who has made a huge impact on so many peoples lives , Martin Luther King . When Leonard Braithwaite first herd Martin Luther King's quote ( "I have a dream" ) Leonard had a quote of his own "I have a dream aswell" , and from that day forward all his thoughts , all his dreams and all his sentences are linked back to that one quote , so he decided that it was time to take charge and fight for what he belived in. -
Feeling The Pain
For Leonard Braithwaite,it was not all that smooth,in1963,he was elected for alderman on the Etobicoke council.Although this time he had a running canidate for that position,his name was Geoffrey Grossmith,he won the election by 500 more votes,most people came up to a thorey that again it was because of Leonards race.That did not stop him from achiving his goals,in 1967 he was re-elected and became the official constituency of Etobicoke.that proves that you should never give up on your dreams. -
Taking A Stand
After Leonard was re-elected,he found out that black children were still seperated from the white children in some schools,and he knew that it was his duty to make sure that everyone is being treated farily so that Leonard Braithwaite could again repersent Canada in the best way possible.Leonard orderd a meeting/confrence so that the blacks and the whites would be treated equally,it did take a while for the people to relize that Leonard was right.Everything was running smoothly,or so he thought! -
Young At Heart
Leonard Braithwaite knew he was ageing,and once and a while he would take a pause and think about how much of an impact their would be if he passed away.So in 1982,he brang alot of Canadian citizens and gave them a peice of paper and a pencil,they wrote down their thoughts and their opinions so Leonard could go through them.Leonard Braithwaite quoted"your thoughts are important but your heart speaks its mind"some of the notes stated"Leonard you may be ageing but your still young at heart. -
One Step At A Time
Leonard Braithwaite herd that some schools are still seperating children from their race.Leonard wanted to do something about it,although when they had a meeting about it,most people were saying that its to much for an M.P.P to do becuase its not in Canada.Leonard Braithwaite said that if he can make a difference here he can make a difference anywhere, -
We Grow Older We Grow Smarter
Leonard Braithwaite had a meeting with the board of education,When he relized that it was so hard just to get up in the morning.He had to call of the meeting to go to the hospital only to find out that since he was ageing,his bones were getting weeker,so Leonard was put to bed rest so his bones would start re-energizing.Leonard Braithwaite had a public speeking that day and did not want to call it off,so he got one of his friends to speak for him.Ans Leonard just sat their on his bed depressed.
