Fog Horn
In 1854, the first automated steam powerd fog horn was invented by Robert Foulis. On a foggy night he heard his daughter playing piano and noticed that you could hear the lower notes way better than the higher ones. He designed this device to have a low- frequency sound. -
Lacrosse
In 1860, William Beers beagn to create the first written rules for Lacrosse. William had a love for Lacrosse ever since he was a teenager and decided instead of deciding rules prior to the game, he created written rules that applied for every game. -
Rotary Snowplow
The Rotary Snowplow was created int 1869 by J.W Elliot. Althought he invented the Rotary Snowplow he never created a model. He got companies help to expand his idea. They then built working models they tested with sand. -
Standard Time
Standard Time was introduced by Stanford Flemming in 1878. He wanted to have everyone on a single 24 hour clock for the entire world located at the center of the Earth. -
Baggage Check
The first separable coupon ticket was patented in 1882 by John Michael Lyons. This ticket was know as a baggage check. The ticket showed the station, destination and a number for reference. The lower half was given to the passanger while the top was insterted into a sleeve then attached on the bag. -
Electric Oven
The Electric Oven was created in 1882 by Thomas Ahearn. Thomas was known as a buisness man and had many other patents and businesses. He created this oven because he thought all food should be cooked electrically. -
Power Connection for Electric Street Cars
In 1883, John Joseph Wright invented the power connection for Electric Street Cars. This allowed electically driven street cars to go to their destination by the power of a cord attached to the top. -
Electric Car Heater
The Electric Car Heater was created by Thomas Ahearn as well. He thought it would be a great idea to warm cars by electrically heated water. This was a key and successful invention in 1890. -
Bromine
In 1889 Herbert Henry Dow patented his ideas of extracting bromine. Finally in 1890, his ideas turned into reality. He partened with the Midland Chechimal Company. -
Brunton Compass
The Brunton Compass was patetened by David W. Brunton. Unlike modern compasses this compass uses magnetic induction damping. Alothough the Brunton Company makes many other compasses this is used for accurate degrees and angle measurements in the field.
