Birth
This date was important because it was when a journalist and an effective english prime minister was born. Churchill was born in Blenheim Palace, a place in Oxfordshire. (Macdonald 11) Being born at this palace he had already made his way into a wealthy, aristocratic family- this gave him a good start to his life. -
Boarding School (Date is April 1st because I could not find the day).
When Winston was young, he was enrolled in a formal school, but was rebellious and failed to pass. He attended a second school which he was also rebellious in so he was sent to Harrow School, which is a boarding school near London. By the first few weeks, he joined a group called the Harrow Rifle Corps, and did extremely well in the military exams he took. Joins Fourth Hussars
By joining this group in 1895 and Churchill served in the Indian northwest frontier and the Sudan, where he saw action in the Battle of Omdurman which occured in 1898. While he was in this group, he ended up writing military reports for newspapers such as The Pioneer and the Daily Telegraph. In 1899, Churchill left the army and worked as a war correspondent for the Morning Post, which was a conservative daily newspaper. (Biogrpahy.com/Editors) Being a war correspondent, he was able to become a journalist that wrote about war events. This allowed him to start his career in becoming a writer as well and continue being in the military field. Being right on the site of the battle zone, he was able to write about his experiences and have them published, giving him some popularity. -
Becomes Member Of Parliament (Only know the year).
In 1908 he was elected a member of Parliament, and became appointed to the prime minister's cabinet as president of the Board of Trade. (Biography.com/Editors). It was important for him to a part of the board because he was able to introduce new reforms to the British prison system and taxes to help with the social welfare system. -
Serving as a Minister of War and Colonial Secretary (No exact day).
Being appointed as the minister of war and air in 1917, Churchill started to serve in 1919 to 1922. He was also the colonial secretary for British foreign problems under David Lloyd George. As a colonial secretary under George, who was the prime minister at the time, he was involved in conflicts with countries like Iraq, where the British had a holding. Being in this position, he was on the path to becoming a leader and showing his military skils. -
Britain Declares War on Germany
With the rise of Adolf Hitler in 1933, Germany was trying to take control over some of the nearby countries in 1938- having Churchill on the supporting side of not liking the sudden want of power for the country. So on this date, Britain declared war on Germany, and Churchill was appointed a member of the war cabinet. (Biography.com/Editors). This event was another place for him to hold his spot in Britain's politics and to go against the

In May of 1940 the talk about the German invasion of Norway due led to Churchill being appointed. Prime Minister Chamberlain had been voted no since he had ignored the proposal made by Churchill to stop the Germans by occupying ports on the coast of Norway. (Biography.com/Editors). This was important because he was now in power and was fully able to use his skills in helping Britain against Germany. -
Attack on Pearl Harbor
The attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii starts when Japanese fighter planes launch a surprise attack on United States soil, destroying the U.S. Pacific Fleet docked at the base. Dwight D. Eisenhower is elected for president of the United States. This is important because when he becomes president, he creates the federal interstate highway system, which allows a much more effective way for transportation of things and people. (Grun). Launch of the USS Nautilus
The USS Nautilus (SSN-571) was the world's first nuclear-powered submarine, so the launch of it was an important achievement in technology. Its atomic fuel source gave the U.S Navy an increase in both range and operational flexibility. The submarne was also the first vessel to complete a submerged transit to the North Pole. When his death was learned about, people all over the world were devastated since he had left such an impact when he was alive. (Keagan 328) After being a politician who created history in the 20th century, he was remembered and nobody would forget of the actions he took to help against Hitler, the books he wrote about
