The Birth
Fredrick Douglass is born -
Mother Died
Fredrick Douglass had a mother named Harriet Bailey. She was sold soon after he was born. She would sneak to him at night and put him to bed. She eventually killed herself. He never knew when she died. -
Went to live with Covey
He went to live with Covey. He needed to be broken by Covey because his master couldnt break him. He was whipped almost every week and his back se him stayed raw. One day Covey tried to tie him up Douglass but he got tired of being hit and fought with Covey. He was never touched again. -
Went to live with Freeland
Douglass went to live with Freeland. While he was there he organised a Sunday School. On sundays people young and people old came. He taught people how to read and write. He also had a plot to escape and go to the north. This was stopped and he was brought to jail. -
The great escape
He escaped from slavery in 1838. He had a free friend with freedom papers . His friend loaned him his papers. He posed as a sailor. He was asked to pull out his papers many times though he didnt look like his friend people didnt notice. -
North Star
In 1945 Douglass founded the North Star. The North Star was a newspapper that he made. It was called the North Star because he wanted it to talk about slavery. In this magazine he told people how to escape slavery. -
Civil War
In slavery was abolished. Due to Emancipation Proclamation. DSouglass met with Lincoln several times to talk about the way former slaves could help the North. Free slaves fought to show thanks for them becoming free. -
Ending
The Civil war ended in 1865. Many lives were lost during these battles. The struggle was almost over society still had a long way to go . People were not equal yet and people tried to change that. -
The Death of a Legend
Fredrick Douglass died in the year 1895. He had justgotten back from speaking He suffered a heart attack. At this time he was 73 to 75.
