    Daniel Dennett was born on March 28, 1942. He moved from Lebanon to Massachusetts when he was five after his father passed. After attending summer camp when he was 11 years old, he learned about philosophy and that peaked his interest.

    Dennett graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1959. After graduation, he spent time at Wesleyan University and then Harvard University where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963. In 1965 he received his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oxford.

    Dennett was very interested in consciousness, thus he decided to write his doctoral thesis on the topic, which he later made into his first book, Content, and Consciousness. The main idea or problem of the book was to figure out/explain how the mind and body interacted with each other.
  • Legacy

    Daniel Dennett has accomplished much in his life. He has been awarded many times and has written many books, mainly about the mind and body. He is also a major contributor to understanding the conceptual foundations of evolutionary biology. He began teaching at UC Irvine shortly after receiving his doctorate and then moved to the University of Tufts, where he has been teaching since.
