Pg 1 to 27. In these first pages it starts off talking about him and his wife Vicki's marriage and how happy they were at first and how they couldn't wait for there baby boy Nic to be born. After he was born three years later Vicki and him file for a divorce and have a therapist study Nic for the next 3 months to determined who gets custody. After the study is over, it's decided. Nic spends school years with his father in San Francisco and holidays and summer with his mother in California . -

Nics father gets remarried to a woman named Karen and Nic and her get along really well and they both love art. Nic is in the 5th grade and is making new friends and is the top students in his class. The teachers say that he is a leader and everyone looks to him for advice. Later that year Karen has a baby and Nic has a half brother named Jasper and is in love with him and is fasinated with the new edition in his life. -

Nic is in the seventh grade and is caught coming into the car smelling like cigerette smoke. His father asked him and he denied it but then finally admitted to doing it. He promises to never do it again. A couple months later he finds pot in Nics backpack and confronts him and asks him why he has it and he replies saying that "everyone does it" They tell Nic that it's not okay and that he could get into serious trouble and that if they find him doing it again there will be punishments. -

Nic now has a new baby sister named Dasiy and is moving in with his mom in California just for the rest of that year so he can try out a art school down in Los Angeles that he got accepted to. Toward the end of that year Nic gets expelled for buying marijuana on campus and moves back with his dad and Karen. It was two years that they hadn't heard of Nic smoking marijuana and wondered if he still was doing it all that time even after they told him all of the possiblities of getting hooked on it. -

Nic finally graduated highschool and was still getiing in trouble. one night when his father went to check in on him his bed was empty they didnt hear from him for 4 days and when they did Nic sounded terrible and his father ran to help him, he was brusied and when he asked what happened he told him he owed a lot of people money, he passed out for 3 days when he woke his father told him he was going to rehab and he said no and he learned his lesson and will never use Meth again.He was speachless -

Nic's father forces him to go to the Oakland rehab center. He is furious and punched a hole in the wall while walking out the door. The whole way there he was screaming at his father telling him that he doesnt know him and thats he's ruining his life; yet again in that very moment Nic was high. When they get to the rehab center Nic has to be forced out of the car and then his father leaves and has the whole ride home by himself thinking of where he went wrong with his son. -

Nic has been in the rehab center for three months and then finally calls his father. As soon as nic calls him he rushs down to the rehab center to see his son. They say that Nic has made many transitions and has amazing progress. When his father goes in to see him Nic runs to him and gives him the longest hug and apoligizes for everything he thanks him for forcing him into help because without it he'd be lost. He wants to go home and the therapists and doctors said it would be best. -

Nic is welcomed home by Karen and by his two little siblings who are excited to see him after all this time. Nic now shares his story with kids who are druggies and has made an impact on some of there lives. Nics father gets stories sent to him about how other parents sons and daugthers have passed away becasue of overdose, Every day he wonders why Nic is still alive, he can never come up with an answer but he is extremly gratful and doesnt take advantage of any second with his son.
