  • The Beginning of Bas Van Fraassen

    Born in Goes Netherlands, 1941 his family emigrated to Canada during 1956 Franssen went to school at the University of Alberta acquired his B.A in Philosophy then went University of Pittsburg received his M.A 1964 then Ph. D in 1966. Fraassen taught at Yale University, Toronto, Sothern California, and Princeton University. 2008 Fraassen retired from Princeton and worked at Philosophy Department at San Francisco State University where Fraassen worked on The Experimental Side of Modeling.

    The Empirical Stance written by Bas Van Fraassen in 2002 a combinations of all his lectures during his time at Yale University Fraassen lectures criticizes metaphysics and the sub portion of analytic ontology that these two sciences do not fall under sciences and to clump these two together would be contradictive. Fraassen throughout his lectures he wants to make it clear that metaphysics should nut be a theory or set of beliefs he is very passionate about the devaluing of ontology.

    Fraassen during his time reading and writing books he became familiar and even influenced by other philosophers John Worral through the structural realism and later devolved by Steven French and James Ladyman which all three have many publications in the realm of philopshy of science. This publication was published in 1993 and a second influencer than Fraassen wrote a book with is Isabelle Peschard through The Experimental Side of Modeling on situated activities.
