Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii at the Kapiolani Medical Center. His parents are Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Senior. Obama's father was from Kenya and even had another wife and more kids there. He went to the United States where he left his other family behind and started another one. -
Moving to Indonesia
When Barack is only six years old, he and his family move to Jakarta, Indonesia. While he is there, he experiences poverty, illnesses, and the difficult life that many people face. -

Obama is sent back to Hawaii by his mother where he stayed with his grandparents. -

Obama starts working at the firm of Davis, Miner, Barnhill and Galland. He was then hoping to work with cases dealing with civil Rights. -

Obama is elected as the Illinois Project Vote director, in which he registers around 100,000, new voters, most of them being in the African American community -

Barack Obama is married to Michelle Robinson. -

Barack Obama's autobiography, Dreams from My Father, was published. This book is about his life, his past and who he is. It also shows the connections with him and his father. -
Runnning for US Senate
In 2003 Obama ran for Senate. He was elected in January of 2005 as the Senator of Illinois. He won with 70 percent of the vote, and when he was elected, he was the fifth African American in the Senate. -

Obama gave this speech, which delt with racial issues. This took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He talked about who he is as an African American and the mistreatment of blacks. He also stated what we need to do to better our country. His thoughts were that we need to focus on goals that we all share. -
