Home of Infants
Equality was born into the Home of the Infants. Throughout his life, he will have no concept of who his parents are. He will stay here for five years. He got locked in the cellar more often than any of his brothers because he got in fights with them. They all sleep in a white room with nothing but one hundred beds in it. -
Home of Students
Equality 7-2521 is now sent to the Home of Students, where he will get his education. After he finishes up his ten years here, he will be assigned a job that he will have to do for the rest of his life. However, school is too easy for him, and he asks questions hoping to learn more. So many questions that the teachers forbid questions. He was lashed much more than the other children. -
Named Street Sweeper
Equality 7-2521 is finally assigned his career. Although secretly hoping to be put in the Home of the Scholars, his is named a Street Sweeper. However, Equality remains optimistic that now he will be able to repent for his previous sins as long as he does well as a Street Sweeper. -
Home of the Street Sweepers
Equality arrives at the home of the Street Sweepers where live will go on uneventfully for the next four years. As a street sweeper, he disposes of debris and trash around the streets, and takes them to the city cesspool. -
Discovers the Tunnel
In a great ravine behind the City Theatre, Equality and his friend International 4-8818 discover an old rusty grill that leads down to a tunnel. Equality claims this place as his, and International says that he will not tell anybody. Excited, Equality begins to gather things such as small animal carcasses, glass, and other abandoned items that he wants to learn about.He steals candles, knives, flints, paper, and manuscripts from the Home of the Street Sweepers and the Home of the Scholars. -
Sees Liberty 5-3000
Equality has been spending the past two years experimenting in his tunnel in the evenings when he can escape from the City Theatre. One day, as he is fulfilling his duties as a Street Sweeper, he spots the most beautiful woman ever. It is against the law to notice women save for the Time of Mating, but Equality does anyways, because he has already broken so many laws. -
Converses with Liberty
Equality finally gets to talk to Liberty. He tells her that she is beautiful, and indirectly asks if she is a virgin. He does not know why he is pleased to find out that she is. A few days later he tells her that he has named her the Golden One. She says that she named him The Unconquered. -
Discovers Electricity
Equality discovers electricity one day in the tunnel when he puts wires to a lightbulb. He devises a plan to show it to the World Council of Scholars, hoping to be praised and put in the Home of the Scholars. -
Taken to the Palace of Corrective Detention
Equality is taken to the Palace of Corrective Detention when he stays in his tunnel too late one night, and refuses to tell anybody where he has been. He is kept here for 30 days, where he is lashed and beaten repeatedly, but he still refuses to tell where he has been. -
Escapes the Palace of Corrective Detention
Equality escapes the Palace of Corrective Detention because he needs to show his electricity to the World Council of the Scholars. -
Takes Electricity to the World Council of Scholars
Equality brings his electricity to the World Council of the Scholars, who do not give the preferred response. Instead, they yell at him, saying that if he was assigned to be a Street Sweeper, then that is all that he could ever be. Then they say that he will be given the death penalty, and Equality runs away, into the Uncharted Forest. -
First Day in the Forest
Equality surprisingly enjoys his first day in the forest, amazed by how he can make his own food. The more time he spends here, the more he values freedom. Eventually he sees his reflection in the water, and is overjoyed by how beautifully unique he is. -
The Golden One Comes
The Golden One joins Equality in the forest. Together, they discover the joys of caring for themselves and each other. -
Equality and Golden One Find A House
Equality and the Golden One have discovered a house in the mountains left from the Unmentionable Times. It has mirrors, jewels, lights, everything that we take for granted today. -
Discovers Individuality
Equality discovers the word "I", he talks about the value of freedom, and how sacred individuality. He later says that he is going to bring more people who are not quite brainwashed, and create a small colony of free people. He names himself Prometheus, and the Golden one is named Gaea. He mentions that she is pregnant.
