This confederate assault has upset by the Creightons. They have a long conversation about whether or not war is going to begin. Some of the men suggest that they 're going to go to the war. Eb has decided to go to war. That's the main reason I decided this battle is important. I do believe that this is relevant as the beginning of the war is going to modify Jethro's life forever.

The battle of Shiloh is significant because Tom is killed in this battle. Jethro wasn't very close to Tom, but he nevertheless created a lot of suffering in his family.
Jethro 's family had lost young children to disease previously, and it was a blessing that he and his sister had not become sick and die. This battle also occurs after the Creighton barn is burnt down by harassers who claim that Bill is a traitor, and a copperhead, for joining the South.

    Battle of Fredericksburg
The war is reported to be moving well before this fight. Yet instead it's all going downwards. After this defeat, the Union loses its confidence. When he actually responds back, everybody has a sigh of relief.
