4 Years Old (December 1995)
At four years old, Joey is incredibly interested in the existence of Santa Clause. His parents, not wanting to decide between continuing the myth or being honest, begin to shirk his questions. Joey's Initiative to find the truth is being overwhelmed by his Guilt (Initiative Vs. Guilt) due his parent's annoyance. Joey may have a more difficult time making friends as his Initiative has been squandered. -
12 Years Old (December 2003)
Joey recently began entering puberty and has many questions, but due to Guilt overwhelming Initiative, Joey feels like he can't approach people with his questions. Joey overcompensates by enrolling in as many extracurricular activities as possible. While enrolled in Football and Drama Debate, Joey struggles with identifying himself as a Jock or a Drama Kid. Joey is struggling with Identity vs. Role Confusion. He is applying as many Roles as possible to attempt to supplement his identity. -
20 Years old (December 2011)
Joey's failure to find an Identity leads to a shaky foundation moving into Isolation Vs. Intimacy. At 20 Years old, Joey has been working at a grocery store for the last year and a half. While Joey hasn't found Intimacy in a partner, he decides to join the military. Joey's battle with Isolation has been replaced with intimacy to a role (the crossing due to earlier failures). While not intimate with a person, Joey has found something to be fascinated with. -
45 Years Old (December 2036)
Joey spent time serving his country and after military retirement picked up a side job at the USPS. He never found someone to share his life with, but in stage 7, Generativity vs Stagnation, Joey is still a productive member of society. He feels proud of the fact that he contributes more than many of his peers who are living lavishly and taking more than giving. Joey feels more Generativity than Stagnation spending his time delivering gifts from around the world to loved ones. He is at peace.
