    Childhood in Belarus, pt. 1

When Yung Lean was 8 months old, his family moved from Sweden to Belarus, a small country bordering Russia. His father, Kristoffer Leandoer, was a poet, author and french translator. His mom was a human rights activist in Russia, Vietnam, and South America (Cooper). Their family moved their because his mom grew up in Russia and wanted Lean to have a similar childhood.
  • Period: to

    Childhood in Belarus, pt. 3

Jonatan would move back to Sweden in 2001, and later in life would drop out of high school sophomore year (Cooper).
  • Period: to

    Childhood in Belarus, pt. 2

But, Belarus was not a good experience for him; “One day my dad was gonna pick me up from kindergarten,” Lean says. “All the kids were playing, and he's like, ‘So where's my son? Where's Jonatan?’ They’re like, ‘Jonatan has not been good today,’ and he’s like, ‘But where is he?’ They point at the corner, and they’d put me in the corner with, like, a KKK hat. What do you call it? A dunce hat. I'd been standing there like that for maybe five hours.”
  • Period: to

Childhood in Sweden and Vietnam, pt. 1

After moving from Belarus back to Stockholm for a short time, he eventually moved to Hanoi, Vietnam. Lean's mom worked for the Swedish Embassy and was moved to be the Ambassador in Vietnam. Jonatan's Dad really enjoyed Vietnamese culture and as such shared it with his family and children (Huyen). Lean's school problems would start here as he first got into trouble painting graffiti on a street (Serviette). But, in 2011, the Leandoer Family would move back to Stockholm (Huyen).
  • Period: to

Childhood in Sweden and Vietnam, pt. 2

After moving back to Stockholm, Lean met his two producers in a park and quickly became friends. But, his school career would continue to suffer. His friends would routinely get in petty trouble for things such as smoking and painting graffiti, and eventually would drop out sophomore year in 2013 (Cooper). From this you can again infer that Lean has an expansive world view - not only has he lived in Belarus and Sweden, but also Vietnam.
