The Germans invaded Russia from 1941-1945. The invasion was the start of a very brutal war for both sides. Eventually the Nazi had to face a Russian winter which allowed for the Russians to take initiative because the were prepared and the Nazis were not. And the Russians began to push the Nazis back. -

The Allies launched and campaign that had been anticipated for very long. The Allies deceived the Germans with props making them think they were invading elsewhere. The Allies then launched the attack which allowed them to take Normandy and then further advance into the Nazi Empire. -
Ardennes Alsace Campaign - Battle of the Bulge
It was known as the last major offensive campaign on their western front. It was launched in a dense forest between Belgium and Luxembourg. -
Yalta Conference
A meeting between the three major powers; US, Britain and Soviet Union. They discussed what to do post WWII with the German territory, established the United Nations, and such. -
Japanese Surrender
The US had used two atomic bombs to destroy two major Japanese cities killing thousands during and after. They did this to scare the Soviet Union off and to force the Japanese to surrender. They wanted the Japanese to surrender because going to their shores would be too costly for both sides.
