    The Assasination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    The heir to the Hungarian throne. Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife sophie were touring the capital of Sarajevo Bosnian when an assassin came up to their car and shot both of them dead at point blank.The assassin was a Bosnian revolutionary named Gavrilo Princip. He was part of a Serbian N=nationalist group nicknamed the "Black Hand". The Serbian officials were hoping to start a war to bring down the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

    U.S. Congress Passed the Selective Service Act
    The Selective Service Actwas passed about six weeks after the U.S, entered the war, It gave President Woodrow Wilson the power to draft soldiers, and all men in the U.S. between the ages 21-30 were required to register for military service. Within a few months about 10 million men registered in response, and by the end of the war 2.8 out of the 4.8 million that served were drafted.
  • Henry Trollinger McNutt gets enlisted

    He joined the Navy because of the need for American sailors. He spent most of his time working in the fire rooms as a Fireman Second Class aboard the USS Illinois. He also sent many letters to his girlfriend Myrtle Barton over the couse of his time here.
  • Henry Trollinger McNutt died

    Henry died of bronch pneumonia. He told Myrtle only eight days before. He died at Navel Hospital in Norfolf, Virginia.

    On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month Germany signed the armistice and the war ended. That is why this day used to be celebrated under the name Armistice Day. Now we call it Veteran's Day to celebrate veterans from all the passed wars.
