This battle was important because it stopped the Germans from gaining control and taking hold of Ypres in Belgium. After they successfully stood their ground they got control of their ground, it helped establish the Western Front.

    The cause of the war started because of the death of Franz Ferdinand on June 28th, 1914. People were already on edge due to the alliance that had formed. This death played a significant role in provoking conflict. This led to the World War going into effect.

This was important because it captured the german-held high ground. The fighting and weather made this one of the most harsh battles of the war. This ended in heavy deaths on both sides but the Allied got more ground and made the German Empire weaker.

This had not only an impact on Russia but also on the 20th century. This revolution changed the political change and economic changes that can still be done today.

During the war the US had a balance among the Allied powers, helping with drafting the central powers. They also provided troops, resources, and financial support which helped the Allied powers. All in all the US joining the war shaped the outcome of the war.

I think the choice of words he uses shows the extreme heat he had to live in while at war and the time he was. I can only imagine the challenges he had to go through while being there.
