The beginning of World War 1.
World war 1 began in 1914, after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and it lasted until 1918. On July 28, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia the tenuous peace between the Europe's great powers quickly collapsed. -
Causes of WW1: alliances
In World War 1 an alliance is an agreement made between two or more countries to give each other help if it’s needed. Number of alliances have been signed by countries between 1879 and 1914. This was important because that meant that some countries had no option but to declare war if one of their alliance declared war first. -
Wars that occured during WW1
Austria-Hungary declared war against Russia the 5th of August. Serbia against Germany on the 6th of August and France and Great Britain against Austria-Hungary on the 10th of August. Many wars and battles were started during WW1 and didn’t end for awhile. -
Tank secret weapon
The first World War tank developed from the interest of the same military officers. British forces first used tanks during the Battle of Somme in September 1916. British men had a dramatic effect on German Morale and proved effective in crossing trenches. -
Changing Battle Tactics with the Introduction of the Machine Gun.
The machine gun worked entirely from a hand crank but by the end of the war in 1918, the machine gun was entirely automatic and was able to produce an output of up to 600 rounds per minute. By 1917 the Germans were reporting that the majority of their small ammunition, only 90% to be exact were going into the chambers of their machine guns. -

The allies Britain, France and the U.S won WW1 which happened from 1914-1918. The main loser was Germany along with Austria-Hungary. World War ended at 11am on the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918. -

World War 1, 1914-1918 His Military status is a Veteran. Franks dates of service is 1917-1919 he was enlisted in the branch of Army. He served in the U.S, England, France and Germany. The highest rank he was in was Corporal. He wasn't a prisoner of war. The veteran was a prisoner of war (POW) as a civilian in the Philippines for a year. Frank was traveling abroad for his shipping business at the time of his capture. -

Frank had an appointment for an order for Corporal on September 22 1919. On September 10, 1919- leaves of absence to Visit Arcachon France. One special order he received was on September 21, 1919 when he had to evacuate prisoners of War to Is-Sur-Tille. -
Honorable Discharge (letter)
Frank Buckles Woodruff was born in Bethany in the states of Missouri. When Frank enlisted he was 18 years of age. He had brown eyes, black hair and a dark complexion. He was 5 foot 3 inches tall. -
The end of Franks Journey and he was home again.
After the war Frank Woodruff moved to San Francisco after WW2 on September 14 1946, he married a women named Audrey Mayo of Pleasanton, California. At the age of 106 he was still driving around on his tractor. His wife has passed and Frank lived with his daughter until he died at the age of 110. -

Frank enlisted in the U.S regular army, which was quite a distinction, He had troubles getting in because they were suspicious about his age. Frank wanted to join because he was interested in joining. Franks first few days in the service were very military like. Frank stayed in touch with his family members by letters. -

Service: the ambulance service in World War 1. Frank lied about his age the men all thought he was really 21 but in reality he was only 18. Frank tried the Navy, they didn't want him because they said he was flat-footed even though he went to sea for 20 years after that. Frank was in France and his job really was mostly to drive a car and ambulance.
