When he builds the first temple it was important to him and king David because the temple was going to be known as the resting place for the ark of the covenant which contained the ten commandments. -

The fall of the temple was caused from the Jews of Judea rebelled against their Roman masters. Roman legions surrounded the city and began to slowly squeeze the life out of the Jewish stronghold. when the expulsion happened it was because many peopl refused to convert to Christianity so they were mugged murdered or raped as they fled to north Africa or Italy. Some went to Portugal but got forcibly expelled again. Not many stayed because whoever stayed became a target of the Spanish Inquisition.
