Mansa Musa pilgrimage to Mecca
Mansa Musa made his famous pilgrimage to Mecca in 1324 of his seventeenth year in reign of the West African Empire of Mali. On this voyage he traveled from his capital of Niani to Tuat before making his way to Cairo. During this travel, he was equipped with 60,000 men which included 12,000 slaves. Mansa Musa rode on horseback the entire trip as 80 camels followed carrying some 300 pounds of gold. -
