Birth
Noam Chomsky was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His full name at birth was Avram Noam Chomsky, but now he goes by the much more famous name of Noam Chomsky. He grew up with one brother who was five years younger than him. University of Pennsylvania
Chomsky attended the University of Pennsylvania. He initially went for his Bachelor’s in General Studies. He went on to get his Master’s degree from the same university. -
Harvard
Chomsky became a member of the Society of Fellows at Harvard. This is where he wrote his The Logical Structure of Linguistic Theory, which was later partially published. -
Ph.D.
Chomsky then went on to get his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. Chomsky’s Ph.D. was in linguistics. He got the Doctor of Philosophy degree because even though he wasn’t actively enrolled in the school, Chomsky submitted a thesis to the university. -
Syntactic Structures
Chomsky wrote his book “Syntactic Structures” which revolutionized the way humans view linguistics today. -
University of Arizona
Chomsky was hired as a part-time professor at the University of Arizona where he teaches students and gives public seminars. -
Today
Noam Chomsky is still working with the University of Arizona and MIT to educate new generations. He is also publishing books on topics such as linguistics, war, and politics.
