captured after a crash and sent to Stalag Luft III and became a prisoner of war -
Trying to find a way out he thinks of making a tunnel

The Germans destroyed the tunnel
the germens found the tunnel and covered up the entrance he is going to wait until the winter to start again -
Starts again
they pry open to the entrance and the see that the tunnel was in perfect condition -
83 men escape
there were 500 they had to narrow it down to 200 and only 83 got away the other people that tried to escape got shot but he did not get out. -
Sent off to salag luft VIII
after the 83 men got out of the camp he got snitched on and he ended up getting sent to salag luft VIII -
Gets let go
after the war they let him leave with train tickets and most to his belongings -
Dies
he dies in his sleep because of chronic lung disease but he was a non smoker they think it was all of the sand and dirt he inhaled wile making the tunnel
