Columbus lands in the Americas
Columbus lands in the Bahamas claiming the land for Spain. Later that month (October) he lands in Cuba and thinks its Japan. Once he figured out it wasn't Cuba he treated the natives brutally, but Spain named him the “admiral of the ocean sea.” -
Jamestown
Jamestown Virginia was the first permanent English settlement in the Americas. It was considered permanent until it was abandoned in 1610. Later in 1616 Jamestown was named the capitol of Virginia and stayed that way for 83 years. -
Pilgrims land
On November 11th 1620 the mayflower arrived in new England and settled there on new land that developed into cities. At first they did not know how to survive the winter, but the natives helped them out, and in return they helped them with rival natives, but not all pilgrims and natives had come good relations. In fact a lot of the time settlers were brutal to the natives. -

In 1752 Ben Franklin found electricity. This was important because it greatly helped the US advanced westward and make great advancements in communication. -
French and Indian war
Also known as the seven years war. This was a new world conflict over the long imperial struggle between France and Britain. The war went from 1756-1763 in result the British got control of Canada from France and forced France west. -
Events that tie into the timeline: Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre ties in well because its the biggest reason the revolutionary war. After the British shot protesters in the streets many people heard about it and starting to unite together against the British. -

The event tie in well because this is the final tipping point to start the revolutionary war. After the British make there tea cheaper by putting a higher tax on the colonists own tea the British starting shipping a lot of the into america. Where then the colonists dump the tea over board in protest. -
Lexington and concord
The first battle of the revolutionary war. Although america had not officially made there decoration this was the first battle, even though the British forces succeed in destroying cannon and supplies in Concord. The American Militia successfully drive British back to Boston. Giving america a strategic victory. -
Events that tie in well to the timeline: Battle of bunker hill
The battle ties in well because even though the British won, the colonist were greatly outnumbered and it was a costly loos for the British. The colonist used there terrain to there advantage showing the great advantage they had of knowing there own land turning the tied of the war to colonists. -
Declaration of Independence
After battles like Lexington and concord the colonists finally decided to declare there independence. Which would allow them to break away from England and king George the 3rd. -
Events that tie in well to the timeline: Siege of Yorktown
This ties in well because its the last battle in the revolutionary war where the colonists win. The colonist surround and siege Yorktown to end the war. -
Constitutional Convention
The convention went from May 25 to September 17. Its goal was to revise the articles of confederation, because the states were on the verge of declaring war on each other. -
Jefferson presidency
Jefferson presidency went from 1801-1809. He won the election by getting the support of his rival Hamilton. He set out to limit the size of the government, and expand into new land, were he sent Lewis and Clarke westward. -
Louisiana Purchase
The United States bought the Louisiana territory for $15,000,000 USD. The Louisiana purchase gave the USA 828,000 square miles of land to grow and expand westward. -
Missouri compromise
The compromise allowed Maine as a free state along with Missouri as a slave state. Maintaining the balance of power between North and South. -
Jackson Presidency
Andrew Jackson was president from 1829-1837. He believed heavily on domestic policy, and the removal of the Native Americans. -
Indian Removal Act
The act allowed president Jackson to negotiate with southern Indian tribes for their removal to there own designated territory west of the Mississippi River in exchange for their lands. -

The battle of the Alamo was important in are expansion westward also known as the Texan revolution. The few Texan men were able to hold off the Mexican army to gain Texas as a apart of america. -
Events that tie into the timeline: underground railroad
The underground railroad ties in well because slaves escaped there masters in the south. Then northern people would help them escape. This helped lead into the civil war. -
Events that are important to me: The Gold Rush
The California gold rush began on January 24, 1848, when gold was found by James W. Marshall. This made many people move west to try to become rich, and in California cities and towns developed very fast. -
Dredd Scott v Sanford
The case was about Dred Scott a native american who moved north and his ancestors are slaves and if he should be given American citizenship. The case went to the supreme court and Dred Scott was eventually turned down. -

The southern broke away from the united states in 1860. This ties in well because this is what truly started the civil war because Lincoln believed we need to be untied more than abolishing slavery at first. -
Lincoln presidancy
When Lincoln became president it helped start the civil war. He issued the emancipation proclamation to help win the war. Once the union won the war Lincoln was killed in April 15 1865 ending his presidency. -
Attack on Fort Sumter
Although no casualties the confederate attack on fort Sumter started the civil war. The Confederates won the battle taking the base. -
Events that tie in well to the timeline: Battle of Antietam
This event ties in well to the timeline it is one of the most bloodiest days in american war history. There were 22,726 casualties confirmed. -
Emancipation Proclamation
It was an executive order issued by President Abraham Lincoln. The Proclamation ordered the freedom of all slaves in ten states. -
Events that time in well to the timeline: Gettysburg
This ties in well because this is the turning point in the civil war for the union. It was the biggest loss for the confederacy. -
Evens that are important to me: Pickets charge
Looking like the union is going to loose the war the Minnesota first charges straight at the confederacy giving the union more time. Turning the battle of Gettysburg in there favor and ultimately winning the most important battle. -
Surrender at Appomattox
The battle was the last battle of the American Civil War. Robert E Lee realized in the battle he had lost the war he met with Ulysses S Grant in a house to talk about his surrender. -
Lincoln Assassinated
Lincoln was assassinated by well-known stage actor John Wilkes Booth. He was attending the play Our American Cousin. Booth snuck right up behind him because no one suspected a famous actor and shot the president. -
Thirteenth Amendment Ratified
The 13th amendment passed through congress on January 31st 1865 and was ratified in December. The amendment called for the abolishment of slavery. -
Chinese Exclusion Act
The act prohibited all immigration of Chinese laborers. The act was only suppose to last for 10 year but got renewed in 1892. -
Sherman Anti-Trust Act
It allowed certain business activities that the US government regulators deem to be competitive to investigate. The law helps get rid of all monopolies. -
Plessy v Ferguson
The court case lasted for a month and upheld racial segregation. Stating it should be separate but equal. -
Events that are important to me: Yellow Journalism
William Hearst Shifted the bias of the people threw his journalism monopoly from isolationist to imperialistic. This is important because it helped the Spanish American war happen. -
Spanish American War
The Spanish American war was a war in Cuba. The united states had a quest to be more imperialistic and expand economically. Spain was treating Cuba poorly so we over ran Spain in Cuba, with very little Cuban support. -
T. Roosevelt Presidency
He became the president after William Mickenly was assassinated He earned a reputation as a "trust buster" through his regulatory reforms of anti-trust. Though lots of people loved him he was a great talker and a great debater. -
Wilson Presidency
Woodrow Wilson was the 28th president. Wilson won his 1st term with a 42 percent plurality of the popular vote. His second term focused all on WW1. -
WW1 begins
When world war one began, the United States did not decide to join the war. The USA took a major hit in Cuba so we decided to stay neutral for the start of the war. -
panama canal
Throughout many centuries there was talk about building a canal boats can cut through the middle of Latin America and south america making trade easier. But it was never put into use until 1914. -

This is important because this is when the american dream developed. When immigrants moved to america in search for a better life. -

Wilson 14 points tie in well because after ww1 this was his Recovery plan. Although it was turned down by Europe, it could have prevented ww2. -
WW1 Ends
The United States entered the war after the sinking of the Lusitania and the unrestricted submarine warfare of the Germans, in 1917. In 1918 the allies won the war. (which was the US side) -
18th amendment
The 18th amendment effectively established the prohibition of alcoholic beverages in the United States. Which ultimately did not work out. -
Treaty of Versailles
The treaty was negotiated without the participation of Germany. So they made Germany take all the blame and punished them greatly. -
Harlem Renaissance
In the 1920s new art and culture developed. Such as jazz music from Duke Ellington. -
Events that tie in well to the timeline: prohibition
Nationwide constitutional ban on the production, importation, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages. This ties in well to the culture of the 1920s because even though there was a ban many people would still drink. -
19th amendment
The 19th amendment gave women the right to vote. After many protests president Woodrow Wilson finally passed the 19th amendment in 1920. -
Gitlow v New York
Gitlow v New York reached the supreme court on free speech. The ruling made a change to the constitution limiting free speech to time place and manner. -
Stock Market Crash
After a booming economy, in 1929 the stock market crashed making people loose lot of money. Also many people lost there jobs.
