When it comes to technical managing who could know better then a former baseball player. Tony La Russa played for 7 years and then started his managing career, He brought things he knew and other things he learned. He went on leading his teams to victory and winning several managing of the year awads. -
Planning
It took a lot to become a baseball manager and La Russa had it in him after a 11 year career as a player. It takes a lot of planning to be one to. As he started his firs managing career with the White Soxs he learned that. You need to know the strength and weaknesses of the players. You need to set up the batting order. He needed to know where to place each player during the game as fielders and how to move them around. -
Organizing
After knowing the weaknesses and strength of the players then he can organize the things the team needs to work on during practices and as a team work on their chemistry. -
Staffing
A important job for a mnager to know when is a good time to recruit a new player and or get rid of a player. For La Russa staffing was the batting order and the pitcher standings like the starters and the relivers. -

Tony La Russa led the Oakland Athletics to three consecutive World Series from 1988-1990. -

Tony La Russa has a animal rescue foundation that he has made. He was inspired to do so when a stray cat walked in the middle of the field during a 1990 game Oakland against New York Yankees. -
Leading
Tony La Russa lead many teams to victoris but it was with the La Russa that the Cardinals achieved the most. He lead them to the world series 2006 and they won. The same thing happened in 2011. -
Controlling
Even after a big achieve its important to control and keep the team at that level so there can be more achievements. He needs to make sure that he keeps the team in tact and in position. Just like La Russa did and ended up winning another world series in 2011. -
Decisional: Disturbance handler
This is a importnt skill to have as a coach. You need to keep in control as a manager and to do so you need to come up with a decision that makes everyone happy or atleast most. La Russa didn't handle distrubance but was the disturbance. Like in many cases he would be in a fight with the umpire and would always gets called out of the game. -
Informational: Spokesperson
Too a manager this is another important job. When leading the team you also need to be the one doing the talking. Like after games and in conferences. They talk to the players but what stands out most is what the coach says. Like when he spoke at the 2011 world series after and before the game. In addition a year after his retirement he was asked some questions related to his career and his years managing. -
Interpersonal: Figurehead
After the announcement of Tony La Russa's retirement the cardinals then retired his number 10 jersey. -
Informational: Disseminator
A coach needs to report any kind of player problems or injuries to the owner. That tells him whats good and bad for they team and what he wants to do about it. Like letting Alber Pujols go because of the salary that they didn't want to give which was 10 years for $254 million. Then when La Russa was asked how he felt about this after his retirement letting Albert go he said it was a choice that he would've made. -
Human
Tony La Russa's skills and what he has to say about his team and other tells you his skills. If it wasn't him working well with the team then they wouldn't have made such a big impact in MLB if he didn't have these skills he might never be the manager of the year, 3consecutive year. He would never rank 3rd most wins in major league history as a manager. There is a lot you can credit him for, his self esteem for others, his motivation, and his coaching. -
Conceptional
2011 was a down point for the St. Louis Cardinals and weren't doing well like they did. They were down 10 and a half games with one month left of play. They ended up have the most massive and impressive comback in baseball history. They ended up making the playoffs on the night of their final game and winning the world series despite being down to their last strike. That is what i call teammates coming together and getting it done with your coach. It wasn't simply a miracle but took dedication.
