Failure of fire
The man goes to build a fire, and by pulling twigs off of the tree, releases snow and his fire is put out -
fell into water
The man fell into the water and was forced to take a break to build a fire. -
Second fire
The man goes to build a second fire and by this point his hands and toes were numb. -
Lighting a match
The man somehow lit all 70 matches by scratching them on his leg. However they began to burn his skin so he dropped it into the snow, causing the flame to go out again. -
Failure of Dog
The mans body was so numb, he could only hold the dog, not kill it. -
Dog
The man decided he would kill the dog and use its carcass for warmth. -
Run to camp
The man realized he could not continue to survive in these conditions. He decided to make a run for the camp. -
Failure to run
The man attempted the run, and fell numerous times. On his last fall, the man gave up as he thought he was just going to freeze anyway. -
Giving up
As the man lay in the cold weather in his last moments, he envisions the boys finding his body out in the snow and the Old man.
