Jim McMahon

  • Jim McMahon's Birth

He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey and grew up there his whole life until moving onto college at BYU where he played quarterback from 1977-1981 and then was drafted in the NFL. He ended up on the Bears roaster and all of his success started from there.
  • Super Bowl Shuffle

McMahon participated in a video, along with many other Bears players, 8 months before the Super Bowl acting like they have already won the championship (Rasmussen). This shows that Jim and his teammates were very cocky. The song lyrics did end up being true because they did win the Super Bowl that Year which makes it a little crazier. I do believe that this shows Jim's true colors and the way he dealt with the media. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPgkk2-fM8w
  • Headbands

    Headbands
The primary source explains the type of headbands Jim wore during the Super Bowl. He wore the headband in support of 2 causes he believes should be taken care of, juvenile diabetes and missing servicemen (Banks). This does show that Jim cares about what is happening around the world and wants to spread the awareness anyway he can. This shows that he also has a voice and people could potentially listen to what he is trying to get across to the people watching.
  • College Football Hall of Fame

McMahon's days at BYU were legendary for him and the franchise. He was inducted into the Collge Football Hall of Fame for his success (Wallace). His hard work and dedication in college sports got him to the NFL and that is the goal of every little kid that plays football. He showed that he could do all the aspects of what an NFL player could and that's what lead to his college days success. This is a great accomplishemnt for Jim and it is something that he should cherish.
  • NFL Law Suit

Jim challenged the authorities his whole career and now 20 years later Jim is 52 years old and is challenging the league for head trauma that he blames on the NFL for not telling him about. All the concussions that he faced have a severe effect on his life 20 years later (Ley). By Jim facing charges, it shows that he cares about his health and wants to get to the bottom of this case so he can prepare players in the future and hopefully not the same thing happens to them
  • Health Struggles

    Health Struggles
"I am glad I don't have any weapons in my house or else I am pretty sure I wouldn't be here," McMahon said. "It got to be that bad." Jim talked about his suicidal thoughts to the press to show that the head injuries in the NFL effect the players many years later (Mitchell). By Jim doing these interviews about his health is showing the next generations the risks about playing football and showing them what it has changed in his life.
