French and Indian War ends
Also kown as the Seven Years' war but known as the French and Indian war by Americans ends with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. The cause of this war was that France kept expanding their claims on the Ohio River Valley which caused Britain to be unhappy and start war. -
Patrick Henry named colonel of First Virginia battalion
On this day Patrick Henry was named the colonel of The First Virginia battalion in defense of the states' supply of gunpowder. He was also the governor of Virginia from 1776-1779. -
Abraham Licoln born
On this day in 1809 U.S. president Abraham Licoln is born. Licoln grew up in a poor family in Kentucky and Indiana but as an adult he became one of the most respected presidents in United States history. He created the Emancipation Proclamation which freed all slaves in any Confederate states. He died April 14 of an assassination. -
States meet to form Confederacy
On this day in U.S. history the issue of slavery caused 11 states to meet and form the Confederacy. The president of the C.S.A. (Confederate States of America) was Jefferfson Davis. -
President Licoln leaves home in Springfield and heads to Washington D.C.
ON this day President Lincoln packs his bags with belongings and heads to Washington D.C. Since he has been elected seven states have seceded from the Union. Just about four years later he was on a funeral train back to Springfield. -
Yankees capture Roanoke Island
On this day in 1862 the Yankees, lead by General Burnside, captured Roanoke island. This victory was one of the first big victories by the Union. This is so because it gave them control Albemarle Sound which let them threaten the Confederates capital of Richmond Virginia. -

Theodore Roosevelts wife and mother die
On this day in 1884 Theodore Roosevelt was at work when he got called home. He came home to find that his mother had died of typhoid fever, only four hours later his wife died of Bright's disease. Only two days before this his wife gave birth to a daughter, Alice. -
First Groundhog Day
Groundhog Day is celebrated for the first time in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. If a groundhog comes out of its hole and sees its shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather, if there is no shadow there will be an early spring. -
First Teddy Bear goes on sale
On this day in 1903 the first teddy bear went on sale. Morris Michtom the inventor of these bears placed two in his shop and advertized them as teddy bears, after Theodore Roosevelt. Soon after these bears became popular among children. -

On this day in U.S. history Ronald Reagan was born in Tampico, Illinois. Ronald Reagan became the 40th president of the United States. He beat Jimmy Carter to become president. -

On February third 1924, the 28th president Woodrow Wilson died at the age of 67. He was a New Jersey governor and was elected president in a landslide vitory against William Howard Taft. -

On this day baseball great, Satchel Paige is elected into the Hall of Fame. He was born in Mobile, Alabama and was known for his great fastball in the Majors. He died June 8, 1982.
