Poe was a famous author who lead a very twisted and tragic life which ultamately influenced his writing -
Father leaves family
His father left the family when he was one year old which started Poes issues with men and a start to these tragic events -
His mother got sick
His mother got tuberculosis and he later watched her die a terrible death in 1811. This caused him and his siblings to be split up and sent to fosters homes. -
first love
During the time at boarding school his first love also died of tuberculosis like his mom.he was only 15 at the time -
Foster family
Poe and his foster dad never really got along. Poe caught him having affairs while his foster mom was laying on her death bed. So he was sent to boarding school here he did not have no money so he tried to win some gambling but he just dug himself in deeper dept. He finally asked his foster father for help but he refused. He basically disowned him. -

Edgar joined the army shortly after this but was later summoned home because his step mother was about to die. After this he decided to move in with his aunt and her daughter Virginia -

After his step fathers will reading he feel into depression because it was a impossible task to provide for the family. He was deeply in love with his cousin.He later married her and created the detective story.His wife was the only thing that sheltered him from all his horrors he has been through and facing. -
Virginia's tuberculosis
His wife got the same disease that killed so many of his loved ones. During this time he created the poem the raven it was very popular during the time.The poem was about a man needing his wife. While she had tuberculosis he moved her to a quite house. She died a year later he never recovers from her death and went on a down ward spiral. -
