The Life of Ryan Miller

  • Trust vs. Mistrust

    Trust vs. Mistrust
Ryan (age 1 y/o) celebrates his first birthday while having family who is unfamiliar to him due to them living so far away. With each day that he spends with his grandparents, whom he has met once before, he gets more comfortable with them.
This dilemma of whether to trust these new people in his life would fit into Erikson's first development stage, Trust vs. Mistrust. He has to learn the people he can trust and the ones he cannot truly trust.
  • Autonomony vs. Shame

    Autonomony vs. Shame
At this point in Ryan's life (age 2 years and 8 months old) a huge new event has lead to many new developments and changes. With the birth of his little sister, Carlee, Ryan begins to see that he is no longer the infant/baby of the family. One of the main habits that he learns must go with this arrival is the use of binkies. Up until this point he always had a binky in his mother, but now he felt it was for the baby and he was ashamed of the infant based habit, which is Erikson's 2nd stage.
  • Industry vs. Inferiority

    Industry vs. Inferiority
When Ryan was 7 years old, and in the first grade he noticed that he was one of the few students struggling with reading in his class. While the other subjects came easily to him, literacy was one he became easily frustrated in. After some testing, he was diagnosed with Dyslexia and his study methods changed drastically. With this diagnosis came a feeling of being different, which he had to learn that being different was completely acceptable, which is like Erikson's 4th stage.
