Lady Vain
There is believed to have only been 7 survivors on the Lady Vain, but in actuality there were 8. Edward Prendick was among the ship when it had a collision. -
Other Passengers
Due to the lack of food and water, there were only three men left on board. Two of the passengers got into an altercation that led to both of them falling overboard and drowning. This left Edward Prendick alone. He contemplated committing suicide and ended up passing out. -
Rescued
Edward Prendick is rescued and pulled aboard a different ship. All he remembers is being given something to drink by a dark faced man. -
Back to Health
Prendick wakes up on a ship and releases that he has been nursed back to health. The man who has nursed Prendick back to health introduces himself as Montgomery, displaying that he has a medical background. -
Upper Deck
Prendick encounters the black faced man again as he is being scolded by Montgomery to get out of their way so that him and Montgomery can go to the upper deck. The deck is dirty and Prendick is amazed by all of the animals on board. -
Black faced Man
Montgomery and Captain Davis have a disagreement due to the way that Davis and the other guys on board treats the black faced man. Montgomery feels that they disrespect him and treat him ill due to his physical appearance. -
At the Schooner's Rail
Montgomery and Prendick have a conversation on board and get to know each other more. Montgomery bypasses some of Edward's personal questions about why he is no longer in London and why the animals are on board. During this night, Prendick also notices that the black faced man's eyes glow in the dark at night. This brings about all of his childhood fears. -
Abandoned
Prendick, Captain Davis, and Montgomery get into an argument over what to do with Prendick once they reach the island. It being Captain Davis's boat, he has every right to put Prendick off so that's what he does. Prendick is put into a raft without any food or water and is devastated, because now he does not know what to do. -
Saved
Montgomery ends up sailing his boat over to where Prendick is and saves him due to the fact that he feels pity for him. Knowing that he doesn't have anything makes his chances of living small. Once making it to the island and once they start to unload the boat, Prendick notices how the men that are helping are strangely tall and disfigured. They seem not to speak and have a peculiar stagger when they walk. -
Mysterious Man
Prendick encounters a mysterious man on the island. Montgomery and the mysterious man escort Prendick to where he will be living. As they are exiting, Montgomery calls the man Moreau and it immediately sparks Prendick's interest. He has heard of Dr. Moreau and knows about what type of experiments he conducts and have been accused of doing. This causes Prendick to worry about the potential fate of the animals that have also been dropped off on the island. -
In the Forest
While in the forest, Prendick comes across a man on all fours drinking from the stream. As he is trying to get closer, he stumbles on a rock and it startles the man/beast. As he is walking away from the scene where he witnessed the first man, he comes across three other men like creatures that resemble the guys who were on the island earlier. They start to dance and chant, so Prendick runs away. -
Beast, Men, or Bogles
Prendick questions Montgomery about the creatures in the forest and he told to refer to them as "bogles". Montgomery gives Prendick a liquid that sends him right to bed. Once Prendick awakens, he sees that there has been breakfast prepared for him. When Montgomery leaves the room, he forgets to lock the door. Prendick goes into the room to find Dr. Moreau doing an experiment on a human being. He rushes out as quickly as he can, because of what he has witnessed. -
Beast Folk
While roaming through the woods, Prendick comes across the Beast Folk and participates in a ceremony with them. They recite the law. By the time they are finished, Moreau and Montgomery are outside of the hut. They instruct the men to grab Prendick, but Prendick is too quick for them and gets away. -
Doctor Moreau Explains
Moreau tries to plead his case and get Prendick to understand his scientific experiments and why he does the things that he does. He is trying to use vivisection in order to change animals into human form. He feels that what he is doing is going to potentially help mankind in the future.
