    -He led the first 11 ships to Australia
    -He was a Royal Navy officer
    -He could speak 4 languages e.g. German, Portuguese, French, Dutch
    -He sent Philip Gidley King to Norfolk island with 8 free men and a few convicts

    -Until John Hunter got to Australia the army was in charge

    Captain John Hunter

    -He was previously a surgeon
    -Before he became governor there were two years without one
    -Hunter was in the Navy and served as Masters mate in the American civil war.
    -He was lieutenant on the first fleet
    -During his time as governor he ordered that a live platypuus speciman be sent back to england

    Philip Gidley King

    -He joined the Navy when he was only 12 years old
    -He suffered from gout and returned to England after around 5 years on Norfolk island after he recovered he went back to the navy
    - He stopped the NSW army corps from their illegal trades
    -He also helped free men by regulating prices, wages ect.

    William Bligh

    -He signed up to the navy when he was 7
    -He got lots of praise from James Cook
    -He got a salary of around £2000 double that of King
    -He stopped settlers from going to Norfolk Island and brought all of them back to the mainland -In a way, he was a big goody-two-shoes as he kicked settlers out of their homes because they were on "illegal" land.

    Lachlan Macquarie

    -He enrolled in the army at the age of 14
    -His first marriage was to Jane Jarvis but three years later she died of TB
    -After Macquarie was appointed governor he had to restore law and order after Bligh's bad job!
    -He allowed more people to get jobs after he created the need for lawyers
    -He allowed the government to give convicts pardons and created more free settlers
    -He is said to be the most progressive governer yet
