Prologue
Jacob Portman introduces us to himself and his grandfather, Abraham Portman. Abraham tells Jacob about peculiar children with unique powers living in endless time loops, he even has pictures to prove the stories. The children's powers included levitation, invisibility and many more. As he grows up Jacob concludes all the stories his grandfather told him were lies. -
Chapter 1
Fast-forward a couple of years and Jacob is a teenager working at a company owned by his family. He tries his best to get fired because he hates his job. He goes to check on his grandpa and finds him dying in the woods. Before Dying Abraham whispers unusual things to Jacob. Jacobs sees what killed his grandfather. It was a tentacle-mouthed monster. -
Chapter 2
After Abraham Portman's Death, Jacob had nightmares of the terrifying creature he saw. He grieves very much and goes into a depression. Jacob decides to examine his grandfather's last words about an island and his therapist encourages him to do so. He decides to go to an island his grandfather referenced. -
Chapter 3
The chapter kicks off with Jacob and his dad arriving at the island called "Cairnholm". we are introduced to new characters, for example, the museum guide and two kids who believe they are outstanding rappers. Towards the end of the chapter, Jacob discovers a broken down house with no walls and mold. He believes that is the place where the children lived before. -
Chapter 4
Jacob is disappointed with finding a broken down house, he expected a house with children in it. He heads back to his hotel and goes through all the pictures he has to find the children. he stumbles upon a letter dated September 3rd, 1940. A few days pass and he speaks with the museum guide about the house. he tells him that house was bombed a long time ago on September 3rd, 1940. Jacob believes it isn't a coincidence and he goes back to the house once again. -
Chapter 5
As Jacob explores the house once again he feels as if he's being followed. As he's searching he hears footsteps and quickly hears a voice saying "Abe is that you?". He looks to see the person and he finds a girl in a white dress with a fire burning in her hands. She immediately runs away. Jacob chases after her outside and is led to a whole different island. He finally catches up to her but she grabs him by the neck and threatens him with a knife. -
Chapter 6
The girl accuses Jacob of being a wight and ties his hands behind his back and brings him to a house. At the house, he is introduced to Millard who is invisible. We find out the girl's name is Emma and Millard tells her she is wrong about Jacob being a wight. He is finally introduced to Miss Peregrine and she removes the rope. She explains everything to Jacob and answers all his questions. She explains the loop and how it works aswell. -
Chapter 7
Jacob leaves the loop to return to his father. He later goes back where to the loop where a circus show is being held by the peculiars. Then the kids go on a swim and it seems like Emma is falling in love with Jacob. After a long day, Jacob heads back to real-time and he is informed by two formers a sheep has been killed and Jacob is a suspect. The farmers end up believing it was the two rapper kids who committed the crime. -
Chapter 8
Jacob wakes up the next day and immediately goes back to the peculiars and the loop. The children play a game called "Raid the Village" and the objective is to cause as much damage to the town as you can. Since the loop resets the day the villagers wouldn't remember anything that happened. Jacob hangs out with Emma for a while and she exposes to him that he is also peculiar. -
Chapter 9
It is revealed Jacob's peculiarity is seeing hollowgasts and monsters. This explains what he saw the night of his grandfather's murder. In the same conversation, Emma finds out Abraham Portman was killed by monsters. Right as Jacob was making his way back he was stopped by Miss Peregrine. She informs him the loop is under attack by a wight and he should stay for protection. Jacob is stressed but ends up leaving either way. -
Chapter 10
At Cairnholm Jacob is deciding if he should go back to the island or stay at the hotel. In Cairnholm it is revealed that the museum guide has disappeared and a new individual has arrived at the island. The person had sunglasses on a cloudy day which made him look very suspicious. Jacob is led to believe he is the wight Miss Peregrine is worried about. He quickly rushes to the island to report to her. -
Chapter 11
When he came to the loop Miss Peregrine had been kidnapped and it was up to him and the other peculiars to save her. During their quest, they are visited by the wight, who was none other than Jacob's therapist, Dr. Golan. He runs outside of the loop and the peculiars follow. Jacob stops by his dad's bed and tells him he is going to stay with the peculiars. Jacob and Dr. Golan battle which ultimately led to the wight dying. Jacob leaves with the peculiars back to the loop.
