    This is the beginning of Bucks story he is abducted from his lavish life with Judge Miller by Miller's Gardner. Buck then begins his hard and journey from California to Alaska. Along the way he is starved and beaten and kept confined in a crate. It begins his path to a completely new life.
  • Buck is beaten by the club

    Buck is beaten by the club
    This is Bucks first and most important lesson that he learns. Buck tries to attack his kidnapper but cannot because he is beaten by the club. This moment is very important throughout the whole book because Buck learns to fear the club. He often looks back and remembers the power that the man with a red sweater and a club had over him.
  • Sold to Perrault

    Sold to Perrault
    Buck is now for sale in Alaska. He is sold to a mailman to be a part of his sled team. This marks the beginning of Buck's journey as a sled dog. Buck struggles at first as a sled dog but quickly learns. Buck begins to find purpose and enjoyment in being a sled dog.
  • Buck becomes the leader of the pack

    Buck becomes the leader of the pack
    As Buck continues to learn he forms a rivalry with the current leader dog Spitz. As their rivalry continues to grow one day they get in a fight. Buck wins this fight so Spitz is no more. This leads to Buck becoming the new leader of the sled dogs and their pack.

    After serving under Perrault as the leader of the sled dog team, Perrault's mail route was terminated. Perrault then had to sell his dog sled team to an ambitious man, wife, and brother. This man's name was Charles. Charles he no knowledge of the dogs and was extremely harsh to them for his own mistakes. Charles was a fool, he fed the dogs too much food and ran out of all of the food. Charles was greedy for gold and cared about nothing else.

    Buck starts to explore the wild
    As they set up camp and settle down at their gold jackpot. Buck begins to give in to the call that he keeps hearing. He begins to go out into the woods and explore. Each time he goes out it takes him longer to return. Sometimes he would stay out for several weeks. The only thing that makes him return to the camp is his love for John Thornton.
  • John Thornton saves Buck

    John Thornton saves Buck
    Charles is pushing the dogs to death. They are not being fed anymore they are extremely weak. Yet he is still beating them. Spring is approaching and the rivers are starting to unfreeze. Buck is being beaten by Charles when John Thornton sees. Thornton goes to rescue Buck and tries to explain to Charles that the ice will break. Charles is to foolish to listen so Thornton takes Buck from Charles. Charles and the dogs try to cross the river but fall through the ice.
  • Buck loves John Thornton

    Buck loves John Thornton
    Buck is extremely grateful that Thornton saved his life from Charles. Buck is extremely weak when he is first rescued but he continues to grow in strength. Buck grows to love John Thornton more than anything. He spends all his time with him. Thornton meets up with his friends and they begin to explore the wild, eventually they find gold.
  • Buck joins a wolf pack

    Buck joins a wolf pack
    After Buck lamented over Thornton's for some time. He completely gave into his call from the wild. One night Buck was confronted by a wolf pack and from then on Buck became part of this wolf pack.
  • Buck kills John Thornton's killers

    Buck kills John Thornton's killers
    One time when Buck comes back from the woods he finds the whole camp desolated. He saw the Yeehats had killed everyone. Buck was furious because they had killed John Thornton so with rage he killed numerous of the Yeehats making them flee in terror.
