They have to move from Berlin
Bruno arrives home finding Maria packing his bag. His mother says they have to move from Berlin, because of his father´s job. -

They arrive at the new house.
Bruno and his sister gretel was not thrilled with the new house. It is placed all alone with no neighbours and they could see soldiers and children outside their windows. It was only boys in different ages, and all of them wore a striped pyjamas and caps. -

Bruno´s father
Bruno had not talked to his father after arriving at the new house at out-with. He went to his office where his father sat in his uniform. Bruno told his father that he did not like the new house, but his father just said he had to accept it. Bruno also asked who the people outside was, but his father said he did not have to worry about them. Then his father stood up, raised his right hand and said “heil hitler” -

Bruno´s conversation with Maria
Bruno talked to Maria the maid about the new house, and it seemed like she was not pleased with it either. Bruno called his father stupid when Maria snapped and said he never should say that again. Your father is a good man, but I can not understand how he could do such horrible things, Maria said. -

The accident
After building the swing, bruno felled of and hurted his leg and head. Luckily Pavel the waiter saw the accident and helped Bruno. They talked, and Pavel said that he actually was a doctor. Then Bruno`s mother enter the house and wonder what happened. Bruno tells his mom what happened and that if Pavel did not help him, he would bleed to death. She sends bruno up to his room, and on his way he could hear his mom say thank you to pavel, and that if anyone asks she helped him. -

The last christmas with his grandparents.
Bruno missed his grandparents back in Berlin, and decided to write a letter to them. He did not really get the chance to say goodbye after what happened at christmas eve. His father became commandant and wore a uniform, which grandma did not like. She could not understand that her son would participate in something that horrible. At the end of the evening she stormed out, ashamed of her son. -

Herr liszt - the teacher
Everything in the house was the same, until one day when the parents thought it was smart for the kids to start school again. Everyday, a teacher came to the house and gave the children lessons. -

Shmuel
Bruno wanted to start exploring again, like he did back in Berlin. He went down to the fence with barbed wire and saw a dot far away. He goes towards it, and meet a boy at the end sitting on the other side of the fence. He wore a striped pyjamas and a bracelet with a star. He was skinny and his face was almost grey. He starts talking with the boy. His name is Shmuel, he is from Poland and they are born at the same day nine years ago. -

The fury and Eva
A few months before they left berlin, the fury was coming for dinner. He was the man leading the country and therefor bruno and gretel had to wear nice clothes, even though they were not invited for dinner. The fury was short and had a small mustache. Bruno did not like him. He was rude and made jokes about bruno. His wife Eva, was on the other hand the prettiest women bruno had ever seen. -

Shmuel´s way to Auschwitz
First they had to wear bracelets with a star, then they lived eleven persons in one room before they took a crowded train where it was hard to breath. When they got to the camp, his mom was taken away from shmuel, his father and his brother. He almost cried while telling bruno the story. He asked if bruno had any food, but he did not. Bruno said that he could bring some tomorrow. On his way back home, bruno could not wait to tell his parents, but decided that he should keep it to himself. -

Pavel the doctor?
Bruno realised they were not going home to berlin soon, and started to like the new house at out-with “auschwitz”. Every day after class he put food in his pockets and visited Shmuel. One day Maria stopped him and Bruno asked Maria if Pavel really was a doctor. Then she told bruno something he had to swear not to tell anyone else. Later, when he met shmuel at the fence, he told him that pavel lived on his side of the fence and that he was from poland as well. -

Dinner with Lieutenant Kotler
Lieutenant Kotler was going to eat dinner with bruno and his family and Pavel was there serving as usual. Today bruno noticed that pavel was skinny and pale just like Shmuel. He had tears in his eyes, bad balance and did not hear when his father called at him.
Pavel opened a wine bottle and served brunos mom, but when he was going to serve kotler, the bottle slipped out of his hands. Kotler was furious and did something terrible, but no one stopped him -

The imaginary friend
Bruno could not meet shmuel today because of the rain, so he spend his time with gretel since they both were bored. Without thinking, bruno said that he actually was supposed to spend his time with Shmuel. He had to lie when gretel asked who he was and said that he was a imaginary friend. -

Shmuel was in Bruno´s house
It would not stop raining, and bruno could not meet Shmuel as much as he wanted. One day, Shmuel sat at the end of the table in the kitchen. He was brought up to the house by Kotler to wash glasses. Bruno gave him food, even though Shmuel was terrified that kotler would come to the kitchen. Suddenly Kotler came down and got furious at Shmuel. Shmuel said that bruno gave it to him and that they were friends. Bruno panicked and said that he had never seen that guy before and left the kitchen. -

The forgiveness
Shmuel did not meet up by the fence in a long time after what happened, but he showed up after six days. He had bruises all over his face and seemed tired. Bruno was extremely sorry so shmuel forgave him. They took each other's hands for the first time. -

The funeral and the lice
His grandma had died and they went back to Berlin for the funeral. When they came back again, kotler was transferred to another place. Bruno decided to ask Gretel why there was a fence. She said it was because the people on the other side was jews. While talking, Gretel noticed something in her hair that made her scream. Their Mother came in the door and found lice in both bruno´s and gretel´s hair. His father decided that bruno should just shave his head. Now he looked pretty much like Shmuel -

It was time that bruno, gretel and his mom went back to Berlin
Bruno´s mom was unhappy since lieutenant kotler left. She seemed to like him and he was the only one she could talked to. She slept a lot and used a lot of medicine. Bruno could hear his parents talk in the father's office, and later bruno and gretel came in. His father decided that it was time that bruno, gretel and his mom went back to berlin without him. Bruno did not look forward to it. His grandma was dead, his friends probably did not remember him and he had to say goodbye to Shmuel -

The perfect goodbye
It was couple a days since his father told the news and bruno went to the fence to tell shmuel. Shmuel had tears in his eye when he arrived at the fence and told bruno that he could not find his father. Bruno said he probably was at work and that he would come back soon. Then bruno told shmuel that he was going back to berlin. He became even more sad, and they agreed that bruno could wear a striped pyjamas so they could play together on the same side of the fence. The perfect way to say goodbye -

The other side
Bruno was going to explore the other side of the fence. When he arrived, shmuel stood there waiting with a striped pyjamas. He changed and crawled under the fence. Nothing was like he expected. Everyone was sad, thin and bald, accept from the soldiers. Bruno wanted to go home, but he had promised Shmuel to look for his father. They could not find anything and it started to rain and they were brought into a room. The door closed. He held shmuel´s hand while the lights suddenly went off -

The day after
Nobody had seen bruno after that. Soldiers searched everywhere, but it was no signs from him. His mom did not go back to berlin and gretel cried every day. His father thought about bruno when he was going to sleep and when he woke up. All they were left with was the clothes he had taking of before he crawled under the fence.
