T.R. moves back to New York because of pressure he was getting from Henry Cabot Lodge. While T.R. is the police commissioner he meets Jacob Riis who shows him the underbelly of New York City. Teddy becomes famous because of his dramatic midnight patrols. -

Republicans reward T.R. for his support of McKinley by appointing him assistant secretary of the Navy. T.R. immediately puts his ideas about naval expansionism into practice. -

The Republicans recommended T.R. for the vice-presidency in the upcoming election in November. His popularity helps propel the Republicans to victory. -

Theodore Roosevelt dies of an embolism in his sleep, at Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay. He died at age 60.
