Move from Texas to Florida
Paul was on his way to Florida from Texas. Before he left, his imagination of a zombie following him representing that he was part of the family and that problems follow you no matter where you go. -
Muck Fire
Paul and his mother learn that the fire has been burning for years, but the regular lightning storms sometimes "stir it up." Later that day, a thunderstorm hits and Paul and his mother have to reset all the electrical appliances and clocks when the electricity goes off. -
Legally Blind
Paul's mother explains to Mrs. Gates that Paul is "legally blind," and that they want to see Paul's classes so that he'll know where he's going when school starts. They are shown to a series of portable buildings that are used for classrooms and Paul asks about the soccer team. He tells Mrs. Gates that he plays goalie. Because his mother said Paul was legally blind, they have to fill out an "individualized education plan" which is to outline goals within his "special needs." -
Lake Windsor Middle School Soccer Team
Paul and their parents are at the Lake Windsor High School where Erik is to join the football team. Paul notes that Erik had been a soccer player and that he'd perfected a kick using the soccer ball that he'd transferred to a football. Paul watches a practice of the Lake Windsor Middle School soccer team and realizes that he's a better goalie than anyone on the team, and that he'll be sure to get a spot.
