    Sugar Ray Leonard was born on May 17, 1956 in Maryland USA. His parents, Getha and Cicerio Leonard now had a baby boy.
  • Abuse

    Ray Leonard often got abused as a young child. From a very young age (not specified in the book) it was not uncommon for his father to bring out a cord or belt and abuse Ray in his house near Palmer Park. Since he says in his younger years im assuming from the age 0of 7-13ish. (PG.9)
  • Birth of Ray Jr

    At the young age of 17, Ray Leonard and his girlfriend at the time Juanita gave birth to a baby boy, Ray Jr. Being only 17 his parents were not very pleased that he himself had a child especially with his bright career of boxing ahead. (Pg.36)
  • Winning Gold

    When Sugar Ray started boxing, his main and only objective was to win the gold medal for his country. He did just that at the 1976 Olympic games beating Andres Aldama capturing the gold medal for his country. Ahead of his was one of the biggest decisions of his life, call it quits or continue boxing.

    After winning the gold medal it is a formality that you got to meet the President of the United States which at the time was Gerald Ford. That was a big deal back in 1976 because it was a black man (Sugar Ray) who won the gold and he also got the privilege of going to the White House and meeting Gerald Ford. (Pg.60)
  • Marriage

    On this day January 19, 1980 was not only his longtime girlfriend, Juanitas birthday. It was also the day that they recited their vowes and upgraded from dating to married. (Pg.118)
  • Won Boxing Match Against Duran

    After perhaps one of the biggest losses of his career Sugar Ray Leonard was ready to avenge that loss. In his rematch against Duran he didn't only win the fight, he made Duran quit.(Pg.163)
  • Muhammad Ali Joins his Camp

    What he said was his defining moment, was when the undisputed greatest boxer ever Muhammad Ali joined his camp for his title fight against Hearns. This is when Sugar Ray says his "I made it moment" was. (Pg.178)
  • Beat Tommy Hearns to win the Championship Belt

    In his arguably biggest fight of his career he got in the ring against Tommy Hearns for a title fight. In what may of been the most grueling and physically tolling fight of his long and successful career , in the 15th round he knocked out Tommy Hearns to win the title belt. (Pg.188)
  • Detached Retina

    After seeing some spots in his eye, Sugar Ray decided to go to a doctor to find out what the problem is. Turns out he had a detached Retina that needed almost immediate surgery or else he would go blind. A week later the surgery was conducted and it was successful. (Pg.197)
