Second City
I just put down a random date because I don't know the specific one but it was during this year, Carell was able to land a spot on Chicago's Second City Comedy troupe. He used his time here (about a decade) to help his movie/tv career move forward. He also met his wife Nancy Walls while here. -
The Anchorman
Steve Carell was a member of the talented and hilarious cast of this great comedy. He played the character "Brick" who was a mentally challenged weatherman. This was one of the movies that Carell was a part of in the early 2000s that got his name out more. Using the sucess of this movie he was able to move on to even more successful projects such as the 40 year old virgin and The Office. You can see his audition for this role here . -
Start of The Office
Carell would go on to be one of the major stars of this classic show on NBC. He played the boss of the offic in the show and would be a part of many shenanigans. He would stay on the show through season seven in which he left to focus on his movie career. He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor 6 times but never won. You can see his audition here . -
The Way Way Back
Steve Carell was part of this film playing the roll of the main character's mother's boyfriend. This was a change from his typical roles of funny people in that he is playing more of an antagonist. This role showcases how versatile Carell is as an actor and proves that he isn't just a typecast. You can see Carell's thoughts about this role in an interview with Carell and one of his co-stars here. -
Foxcatcher
In this critically aclaimed dramatic film Carell plays the disturbed and complicated character of John du Pont. Carell knocks the ball out of the park when it comes to this role. He is almost unrecognizable when compared to his roles in his past projects, such as The Office. He worked alongside actors Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in this role. The IMDb page is here. -
First Career Oscar Nomination
Carell was nominated for an Academy Award for the Best Actor in a film. He didn't win the award for his role in Foxcatcher (Eddie Redmayne won), but it still is a great milestone in his career. It shows that he is more than capable of getting national recognition for a dramatic role when he was more well known for comedic ones. You can see his nomination clip in this link.
