Ignatius was born in the Basque country in Spain. He was born in to a wealthy family and was originally named Inigo Lopez.

In 1492 Christopher Columbus sets sail west until he reached Asia where the riches of gold and pearls were. He accidentally ran into what is now present day Bahamas and called it San Salvador.

Ignatius joins the Spanish army because he wants to be a loyal soldier to his country. He loves being a soldier and also wanted to be a hero for his country.

In 1529 Ferdinand Magellan circumnavigates the world. Ferdinand died on this mission and only one ship made it back to the basque country at the end of this mission.

Ignatius was hit by a cannon ball in the Battle of Pamplona. He has many operations during this year and he also realized he could become a soldier of Chirst.

Ignatius moves to Manresa where he only stays temporarily. Here begins to lead a life of prayer and penance. He also gets a vision of Jesus while he is at Manresa.

On his journey to Jerusalem (The Holy Land) Ignatius stopped at Venice and Rome. Eventually, he was sent back to Italy by the Franciscans and never made it to Jerusalem on this journey.
