Santiago decides to be a shepard instead of being a priest which is what his father wanted for him.
Santiago told his father that he wanted to be a shepard and travel instead of continuing to go to the siminary. At first his father tries to convince him that he should stay but the father also had a dream to go travel but was to old to do so. -
Santiago meets a king.
The king that santiago meets tell him about personal legends and about the treasure that Santiago had been dreaming about. -
Santiago gets all of his money stolen and he works at a crystal shop for a year.
Santiago gets all of his money stolen, he is discouraged and he decided to give up looking for the treasure and works with a man that sells crystal so he can get enough money to buy a flock of sheep. After a year of working for the man Santiago makes a decision to not become a shepard again because he can always do that but he might not ever have another chance to go in search for his treasure. -
He joins a caravan that is crossing the desert.
Using the money Santiago was going to use to buy his sheep he gets across the desert with a caravan, the leader of the caravan is some what of a teacher to Santiago because he tells him about the desert and of the tribal wars that are going on. He also meets an Englishman who was studying to be an Alchemist. The man trys to teach him alchemy and tells him about a man who has created an elixir that can make him stay young forever and a stone that can turn lead into gold. -
He makes it to an oasis.
When Santiago makes it to an oasis he meets a girl named Fatima and they fall in love. He gets a vision of a group of tribesmen attacking the oasis. The council of the oasis makes him a member of them. He meets the Alchemist and the alchemist begins to tell him about alchemy. -
The Alchemist and the alchemist start their journey to the pyramids to find his treasure.
The Alchemist and Santiago begin on their journey and on the way the Alchemist teaches the boy about the spirit of the desert and how to listen to his heart. -
Santiagoe continues on his journey on to the pyramids.

Santiago and the Alchemist are captured by a group of tribesmen.
The tribesmen that captured Santiago and the Alchemist held their horses and did not allow them to leave. The Alchemist made a deal with the leader of the men, the deal was that if Santiago could turn himself into the wind within three days the tribesman would let the Alchemist and the boy go. On the third day Santiago learned how to turn himself into the wind and destroyed the camp. -

The Alchemist makes gold for Santiago to take on his journey after they seperate.

Santiago is beaten and all of his gold is stolen.

Santiago goes to an abandoned churchwhere he had stayed before and finds his treasure there.
