    Pineda mapped 800 miles of shoreline and made a report of the region. It was important because it encouraged further exploration along the Gulf Coast that led to colonization by Spaniards and other Europeans.

    Cortes conquered the Aztec Empire in Mexico. Cortes conquereing the Aztec Empire was important because it sparked an interest for people to explore North and South America because of how Cortes brought back 99 tons of gold.

    DeVaca Voyage Part 1 and DeVaca Discovers Texas

    Devaca Voyage Part 1: DeVaca anad his leader Narvez (leader) were trying to search for gold in Florida. DeVaca Discovers Texas: DeVaca and a few crew members got off the boat to search for gold in Florida. The rest of the crew left them and the men were stranded. So they built barges and sailed but then crashed on Galveston from a gale. DeVaca was in Texas for 6 years. He met the Karankawas, Coahuiltecans, and Atakapans.

    Frar Marcos and Esteban Journey
    The purpose of the journey was to study the land of the North Evaluate. There have been theories about what has happened to Esteban, and some believe that he was killed by Native Americans. Frar Marcos reported about seeing a city filled with gold that was larger the Mexico City.

    De Soto was the original leader and he died. They discovered basically nothing and gave the same report as Coronado.

    Coronado's Expedition

    Coronado was looking for the two cities, Cibola and Quivera. Frar Marcos was the leader for the 2nd part and he never really saw the 7 cities of gold. Coronado discovered the Palo Duro Canyon (Texs) and the Grand Canyon (Arizona) . He reports that there is no and negative reports about Texas. The importance of his journey is that no one explored Texas for 150 years.
